A method for sampling and determination of N-methyl-morpholine in workroom air is presented. Sampling was performed on the adsorbent Amberlite XAD-7 at air levels of 2-100 mg/m/sup 3/ methylmorpholine, and desorption was effected by solvent extraction with ethyl acetate. Analysis of the free amine was carried out by means of capillary gas chromatography with flame ionization or nitrogen-phosphorus detection (FID and NPD, respectively). The recovery tests were performed at 20% and 85% relative air humidity, giving recoveries of 90-96% with a relative standard deviation of 2-5%. After 6 weeks of storage in a deep freezer at -20 /sup 0/C, the recovery was even higher than 90%. The gas chromatographic detection limits of methylmorpholine were 0.5 ng (FID) and 0.05 ng (NPD). The method was applied to the polyurethane industry.
