This technical appendix discusses the analytical methods and the major assumptions underlying the economic impact estimates presented in the report ''Economic Impacts of the Wood Energy Industry in the Northeast.'' The appendix has three parts. First is a description of the structure of the fuelwood industry, focussing on how people and businesses supply fuelwood to end users, and on how wood combustion generates further economic activity. Second, we describe how we combine input/output (I/O) analysis with our understanding of the structure of the fuelwood industry to develop income and job impact estimates for the region. Third, we take a close look at the computer spreadsheet model used to calculate the job and income estimates. In the final section, we move ''cell by cell'' through the spreadsheet, documenting the data sources and defining the equations. 95 refs.
