Oxidation of n-propyl and n-butylacetate to alkanediol diacetates in the presence of acetic anhydride

Journal Article · · Pet. Chem. USSR (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
In oxidation of n-butylacetate using molecular oxygen in the presence of acetic anhydride in liquid phase the attack of oxygen on the ester molecule is basically aimed at the ..gamma..-CH/sub 2/ group to form 1,3-butanediol diacetate. It was established that acetic anhydride is a suitable emergency reagent in oxidation of acetates of normal primary alcohols to corresponding alkanediol diacetates. (JMT)
