Catalytic conversion of alcohols. 6. Selectivity of indium oxide

Journal Article · · J. Catal.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5693591

Indium oxide was oxygen- or hydrogen-treated to various states of partial reduction and tested for its selectivity for dehydration and dehydrogenation of 2-butanol, 2-pentanol, 2-hexanol, 2-octanol, 4-methyl-2-pentanol, and 2-methyl-2-butanol at 210/sup 0/-267/sup 0/C. Primary and secondary alcohols reduced the indium oxide during reaction, and 2-methyl-2-butanol oxidized it. The selectivities depended strongly on the degree of reduction. A comparison with available results for the selectivity of aluminum and gallium oxide did not suggest a pattern for Group III metal oxides. Graphs, tables, and 34 references.
