This paper reports on the persisting problems of acid rain, coupled with the acknowledged greenhouse phenomenon, that have challenged the world with the difficult task of eliminating or reducing several air pollutants, including carbon dioxide (CO{sub 2}), chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), nitrogen oxides (NO{sub x}) and sulfur oxides (SO{sub x}). Argonne National Laboratory has accepted that challenge. ANL researches, together with private industrial concerns, have developed two technologies to eliminate or reduce CO{sub 2}, NO{sub x} and SO{sub x} emissions.
