Derivatization of the fullerene dications C{sub 60}{sup 2+} and C{sub 70}{sup 2+} by ion-molecule reactions in the gas phase

This study focuses on the derivatization of the fullerene dications C{sub 60}{sup 2+} and C{sub 70}{sup 2+} by ion-molecule reactions in the gas phase. This was accomplished using a Selected-Ion Flow Tube (SIFT) apparatus. A model is also presented which relates the efficiency of adduct formation to the ionization energy, the size, and the degree of unsaturation of the molecules. 28 refs., 3 figs., 3 tabs.
