Sivalls Inc., Odessa, Tex, has developed a new process for sweetening sour gas which it says is an economical alternative to the iron oxide, iron sponge, MEA, and DEA processes. The process, called Slurrisweet, is a nonregenative batch-type chemical process which selectively removes H/sub 2/S in the presence of CO/sub 2/. The process basically uses a highly reactive iron compound in slurry form as a contractor with the natural gas. It was developed for gas streams with moderate amounts of H/sub 2/S-up to about 100 gr/100 scf (360 ppm). Each unit is skid-mounted and sized for a 30 day-changeout cycle for the Slurrisweet material. For special applications, higher concentrations of H/sub 2/S per 100 cu ft can be handled at 25 to 50 psig operating pressure or up to normal pipeline pressures of 1,000 to 1,200 psig.
