Book ·
OSTI ID:5689144
New housing for North Carolina's anticipated population growth can be designed to save household, neighborhood, and travel energy with appropriate local planning and housing development regulations. An annual household energy budget of 231 million Btus for recent development could be reduced by focusing on five targets: an increase in multi-family units, a mixture of residential and commercial buildings, placement of new development within city limits, an increase in the accessibility of development already outside city limits, and the use of energy-efficient design features. This report on test-marketed residential dvelopment provides evidence that energy-saving neighborhood design is possible. 21 references, 3 figures, 13 tables. (DCK)
