System and method for depassivating a passivated lithium battery in a battery powered microprocessor controlled device

This patent describes an apparatus for depassivating a passivated lithium battery, comprising: means for momentarily drawing current from the passivated battery to cause a depassivation thereof; and means for monitoring the power delivery condition of the battery and for controlling the momentary drawing of current from the passivated battery until salt crystals on an electrode in the battery are dissipated and the battery has returned to a useful power delivery condition.
