Substantial subsea work needed at Troll

Journal Article · · Offshore; (United States)
OSTI ID:5684793
Norway's Troll field poses one of the most daunting challenges in the North Sea. It would require not only the heaviest platform by far ever built, but also substantial subsea development, with up to 24 wells based on perhaps nine West Troll subsea templates for oil production, and up to 30 platform wells for gas production in water depths down to 350 meters. The very shallow nature of the reservoir reduces the reach of deviated wells to about 750 meters horizontal extension with only about 45/sup 0/ bottomhole deviation. The subsea work necessary for the development of the Troll field is described.
