Calculation of the structure factor for a Pd/sub 1-c/Si/sub c/ melt in the long-wavelength limit from experimental data on the EMF of alloy formation

The authors investigate the x-ray diffraction long-wavelength limit and the concentration dependence of the structure factors - Bhatia-Thornton and Faber-Ziman among them - for a liquid palladium-silicon alloy based on the relationship between the structure factors and the excess Gibbs potential which takes into account the partial thermodynamic Gibbs potential, the electromotive force for alloy formation, the universal gas constant, the valence, the pressure, and the absolute temperature. Their results indicate that the palladium-silicon alloy belongs to a system category with strong chemical interaction between palladium and silicon.
