Measurements of the [mu][sup +] spin rotation and depolarization reveal that La[sub 2]SrCu[sub 2]O[sub 6+[delta]] and La[sub 2]CaCu[sub 2]O[sub 6+[delta]] display magnetic ordering similar to that of La[sub 2[minus]x]Sr[sub x]CuO[sub 4[minus]y] and YBa[sub 2]Cu[sub 3]O[sub x]. Superconductivity was detected in La[sub 2]CaCu[sub 2]O[sub 6+[delta]] ([delta] [ge] 0.05), with the onset near 45K and accompanied by a change in the [mu][sup +] spin precession signals from the majority AFM phase. This was not seen in La[sub 2]SrCu[sub 2]O[sub 6+[delta]]. This behavior was attributed to mobility and local clustering of intercalated oxygen excess in the layer between the CuO[sub 2] planes.
