Studies of the strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) in Rh/TiO/sub 2/ model catalysts

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5682706
Electron spectroscopic techniques were used to study model catalysts of Rh deposited onto rutile TiO/sub 2/(110) single-crystal substrates. Fresh catalysts exhibited normal CO chemisorption, as did catalysts after 200/sup 0/C reduction. Reduction at 400/sup 0/C for 30 min in H/sub 2/ or uhv completely suppressed it. The transition to the SMSI (strong metal-support interaction) was accompanied by a loss of surface Rh. Attempts to reverse SMSI by oxidation and then low-temperature reduction did not succeed. Further studies are being conducted. (DLC)
