Kinetic mechanisms of premixed, laminar, steady state methane/air flames

Journal Article · · Combust. Flame; (United States)
This study compares a number of kinetic models of premixed, laminar, one-dimensional methane-air flames with one another and with experimental data. Two models, one with 14 species and another with 20, both agree with the experimental data over a range of stoichiometries from lean to rich. All of the schemes show good agreement for lean to slightly rich flames; however, this does not validate any of them, even for this limited range. Rather, results show that the quantities measured are fairly insensitive to much of the mechanism, thereby leading analysts to observe that models with incorrect kinetics can agree with the experimental data.
