The tensor polarizability of the hydrogen atom ground state and also the np/sub 1//sub ///sub 2/ state, which arises due to hyperfine interaction, has been calculated. The effect of hyperfine interaction on the (2p/sub 1//sub ///sub 2/)--(1s/sub 1//sub ///sub 2/) transition probability, used to measure Lamb shift in the hydrogen atom, has been studied. This effect turns out to be negligibly small.
