The crystal structure of the complex of Pd with the sulfur containing macrocycle bis-1,4,10,13-tetraoxa-7,16-dithiocyclooctadecanthiocyanato-palladium(II) C/sub 14/N/sub 2/H/sub 24/PdS/sub 4/ was determined. The crystals are orthorhombic with a = 15.029(3), b = 8.033(4), c = 16.898(3) A, Z = 4, space group C/sub 2v//sup 3/ in arrangement Pb2b. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by full matrix least squares in the anisotropic mode up to R = 0.052. The metal atom of the centrosymmetric complex Pd(NCS)/sub 2/L has a square planar environment achieved by two atoms of S from the macrocyclic ligand. Pd-S(L) = 2.392, Pd-S(NCS) = 2.244 A. The mean distances S-C, C-C, C-O are 1.84, 1.52, 1.41 A, respectively. The angles CSC, SCC, CCO-X (X = S, 0) have mean values 98.9, 110.5, 106.2, and 112.5/sup 0/. Along the fragment X-CH/sub 2/-CH/sub 2/-X (X = S, 0) the energetically favored trans-gauche-trans conformation occurs.
