Aluminum chloride forms D x AlCl/sub 3/ complexes with amines, ethers, sulfides, and phosphines in benzene solution. The properties of the aluminum chloride complexes are in accord with the general relationships for the complexes of other aluminum and gallium halides and organometallic compounds with n-donors (-..delta..H/sub 1//sup c/ is linearly related to sigma* and ..mu../sub DA//er/sub DA/ values). The acceptor properties of AlCl/sub 3/ and AlBr/sub 3/ relative to n-donors are similar.
