The Symposium on Coal Seam Discontinuities was held at Pittsburgh, PA, November 3-4, 1976. Sixteen papers have been entered individually into EDB. The papers deal mainly with the detection of discontinuities (geologic faults, washouts, etc.) in coal seams by both surface and in-seam seismic surveys and the rather serious effects such discontinuities have on longwall mining and therefore the advantages for planning of determining the location of such discontinuities in advance. They also deal with determining the location of geologic faults by aerial surveys and discuss the extra hazards in mining near such faults. (LTN)
