Cluster building on a bicarbide fragment: Synthesis and structure of [Fe{sub 2}Ru{sub 2}({mu}{sub 4}-C{triple_bond}C) ({mu}-CO)(CO){sub 8}({eta}-C{sub 5}H{sub 5}){sub 2}]

Thermal reaction of the ethynediyl complex [(Ru(CO){sub 2}({eta}-C{sub 5}H{sub 5})){sub 2}({mu}-C{triple_bond}C)] (1) with diiron nonacarbonyl occurs with formation of [Fe{sub 2}Ru{sub 2}({mu}{sub 4}-C{triple_bond}C)({mu}-CO)(CO){sub 8}- ({eta}-C{sub 5}H{sub 5}){sub 2}] (2), a cluster containing a bicarbide ligand. A structural study has shown that one of the ruthenium atoms migrates from a position where it is {sigma}-bonded to the ethynediyl unit. Complex 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2{sub 1}/c with a = 9.579 (5) {angstrom}, b = 24.789 (4) {angstrom}, c = 10.621 (5) {angstrom}, beta = 115.02{degrees}, Z = 4, V = 2285 (2) {angstrom}{sup 3}, 2679 reflections with I {ge} 3{sigma}(I), R = 0.049 R{sub w} = 0.056. 52 refs., 2 figs., 4 tabs.
