Fuel burner pump assembly

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5673320
A one pipe oil burner system is described comprising pump means having an inlet and an outlet, tank means at a lower level than the pump means, supply pipe means between the tank means and the pump inlet, a regulating valve having inlet and outlet ports with nozzle means connected to the outlet port, a pressure operable diaphragm valve having inlet and outlet ports and a control port, throttling means between the pumping means outlet and the inlet ports of the diaphragm valve and the regulator valve, a check valve having an outlet port and an inlet port connected to the diaphragm valve outlet port. A return line connects the outlet port of the check valve and the regulator valve to the pump means inlet. The check valve has a casing section forming an interior space, a rod section in the space having a longitudinal bore closed at one end thereof and having fluid communication with the check valve inlet at the other end thereof. The rod section has a transverse bore intersecting the longitudinal bore and has at least one open end, and a sleeve member made of a resilient and relatively soft material mounted on the rod section in surrounding relation to the transverse bore. The sleeve member is yieldable to allow air and oil to flow from the inlet to the outlet of the check valve upon a predetermined pressure occurring at the check valve inlet.
