Two-dimensional superconducting transition in films with minimized ihmomogeneity, the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition

Conference · · AIP Conf. Proc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5668797
Measurements of the width of the resistive transition of 39 superconducting amorphous bismuth films with thicknesses between 150 and 2800 A are compared with theoretical predictions based on the existence of a Kosterlitz-Thouless vortex-antivortex dissociation transition. The superconducting transition region is found to broaden with increased residual resistance of the films as expected. The observed width is less than predicted.
