Bonds in association compounds in microemulsions

Conference · · ACS Symp. Ser.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5666388
Microemulsions may be described as hydrocarbons dissolved in solutions of amphiphilic compounds containing water solubilized in reversed micelles. Nonionic surfactants give rise to corresponding high solubilization ratios at temperatures in the vicinity of their cloud point without any further additions of amphiphilic substance. With surfactants of this kind, a detergent phase also is obtained in this temperature region. Investigations by means of molecular spectroscopy have given specific information about the bonding conditions between surfactants and amphiphilic substances, such as carboxylic acids.
