Geothermal pipeline: Progress and development update from the geothermal progress monitor
The Geo-Heat Center at Oregon Institute of Technology is located in Klamath Falls, Oregon. It was founded in 1974, with goals and objectives that included: (1) education, emphasizing the nature and uses of geothermal waters having temperatures too low for economical electric power generation; (2) development of practical, [open quotes]hands-on,[close quotes] cost effective techniques for harnessing these resources; (3) research into the locations and characteristics of these waters and identification of the sites that can, most readily, be commercially developed and, (4) provision of economic and practical assistance to anyone interested in any aspect of the geothermal direct-use business. In the 19 years that the Geo-Heat Center has been in operation, their staff has become internationally recognized as the leading source of information regarding direct use topics. The staff members have published a Quarterly Bulletin since 1975, numerous articles, pamphlets, technical papers and entire volumes concerning many subjects of interest to low-temperature geothermists. With significant financial assistance from the US Department of Energy over the years, the Heat Center staff has been able to provide many hundreds of hours of free consultation and field assistance to potential developers. The results of their work have been thoroughly documented in easily available publications that are technically and economically invaluable to those seeking to learn from the pioneers.
