Oxidation resistant filler metals for direct brazing of structural ceramics

A method is described of joining ceramic and metal components to themselves and to one another comprising assembling surfaces of components to be joined in an abutting relationship with a brazing filler metal disposed therebetween. The filler metal is trinickel aluminide consisting essentially of 23 to 25 atomic percent aluminum and the balance nickel, heating the resulting assembly to a brazing temperature in the range of 1450/sup 0/C to 1550/sup 0/C under nonoxidizing conditions and cooling the resulting braze joint.
