Glove boxes that have been built and installed at the Savannah River Plant (SRP) within the past 5 yr are unique, are considered to be state of the art, and probably represent a practical limit for glove box applications. The boxes were custom-designed and fabricated to satisfy specific maintenance and operational requirements and in accordance with stringent safety criteria. Geometrically favorable shapes and considerations to ensure nuclear safety are included along with fire prevention measures and protection systems, confinement of hazardous materials, control of mechanical hazards, and protection of personnel from radiation.
