The 903{sup 0}C subsolidus phase relationship of Nd/sub 2/O/sub 3/0-BaO-CuO system (CuO-rich region) have been determined by means of X-ray diffraction method. The superconductivity of Nd/sub 1+x/Ba/sub 2-x/Cu/sub 3/O/sub y/ have been studied. These compounds are superconducting provided they have orthorhombic distorted perovskite structures. The results show that the superconductivity mechanism is related to the Cu-O low dimensional network which may be dependent on the orthorhombic distorted structure, oxygen content and distribution. The result also shows that the amorphous content will influence their superconductivity; but it seems independence on the (Ba,Nd) order-disorder arrangements. Unlike in the other systems, the best superconducting compound in this system does not limit to the ideal (123) composition.
