How performance contracting is paying for user-owned cogeneration systems out of energy savings
- Society for Energy Efficiency, Fresno, CA (United States)
Americans do not respond rationally to energy efficiency improvement opportunities. The environmental impact of energy efficiency is often at least as motivating as the purely economic impact. Performance contracting is an excellent addition to the options you can offer your clients, and it need not be a rigid concept. If the client wants to rent-to-own until he's comfortable, let him. If you have done your feasibility study and the rental unit does what you contend, you've made a sale. If the performance isn't there, there should be neither sale nor performance contract. The principles of performance contracting are illustrated with two case histories: a hotel complex and a truck stop.
