This paper reports on the electrical and detection property investigations of the thin film step-edge submicron Nb/a-Si*/Nb Josephson junctions for using as a detector in radioastronomical radiometers. They are stable, thermally recyclable junctions with nonhysteretic I-V characteristics, R{sub n} = (20-200) {omega} and J{sub c} {approx} 10{sup 5}A/cm. The wide-band modulation radiometer for 4 mm wavelength range with Nb/a-Si*/Nb Josephson junction has been developed. The best fluctuation sensitivity has been achieved 0.007 K for 1 sec. integration time.
