Computational and analytical investigations have been performed for laser-driven flyer plate experiments and compared with data. These have resulted in a more fundamental understanding of the physical processes in the laser absorption, and acceleration of the flyers by the expansion of laser produced plasma. The analytical work describes the dependences of final foil velocity, while the computational simulations permit a detailed look at energy coupling and foil acceleration issues.
