Indoor Air Quality Act of 1988: report to accompany S. 1629. US Senate, One Hundredth Congress, Second Session, August 2, 1988, Report No. 100-442

This legislation provides a comprehensive framework for the protection of indoor air quality. It expands and strengthens the authority of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to conduct research of indoor air pollutants and directs the EPA to develop health advisory documents outlining scientific knowledge of indoor air contaminants. The bill calls for EPA to develop a national response plan, identifying actions that Federal agencies will take to reduce indoor air contamination. EPA also is to assist State governments in assessment of indoor air contamination and in development of management strategies and response programs. The bill expands an existing Federal efforts to assess sick buildings. It calls for reports on air quality problems in buildings, including the nature of the problem and appropriate corrective action. The bill establishes an interagency council on indoor air quality and a clearinghouse on indoor air pollution, and calls for several studies and related reports.
