The assessment of five emulsifiers for the production of stable coal-oil-water emulsions and the determination of the practibility of their use in a boiler system is being investigated. Four emulsifiers are on hand, the fifth is yet to be chosen. Ancillary equipment has been set up and experiments completed on two units. Mounting fixtures have been designed and fabricated for the third and fourth units. The third unit has been evaluated using 45% coal, 50% number 6 Gulf oil and 5% water. The stability of the emulsions is being evaluated on the K-scan unit.
