Fluidized bed combustion system and method having an integral recycle heat exchanger with a transverse outlet chamber

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5648055

This paper describes a fluidized bed combustion system. It comprises: an enclosure; means defining a furnace section and a recycle heat exchange section in the enclosure; a fluidized bed formed in each of the sections; a separating section for receiving a mixture of flue gases and entrained particulate material from the fluidized bed in the furnace section and separating the entrained particulate material from the flue gases; a heat recovery section of receiving the separated flue gases; means for passing the separated material from the separating section to the recycle heat exchange section; means for dividing the recycle heat exchange section into a bypass compartment for directly receiving the separated material from the passing means, an outlet chamber, and an additional compartment, heat exchange means disposed in the additional compartment for removing heat from the separated material, means for selectively directing the separated material from the bypass compartment through the additional compartment to the outlet chamber or from the bypass compartment directly to the outlet chamber; and means connecting the outlet chamber to the furnace section for passing the separated material to the furnace section.
