Decay of 2. 22-sec 1 /sub 56//sup 46/Ba/sub 90/ to levels of odd-odd 1 /sub 57//sup 46/La/sub 89/

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. C; (United States)
The decay of 1 /sub 56//sup 46/Ba/sub 90/ to levels of odd-odd 1 /sub 57//sup 46/La/sub 89/ has been studied in experiments in which ..gamma gamma..t coincidence, ..gamma gamma..t(theta) angular correlation, ..gamma..-ray singles, and time-dependent ..gamma..-ray spectra were collected. The /sup 146/Ba activity was produced directly by on-line mass separation from the fission products of the /sup 235/U(n/sub th/,f) reaction. The half-life of /sup 146/Ba was determined to be 2.22 +- 0.07 sec. A level scheme containing 48 levels and 231 ..gamma.. rays is proposed for /sup 146/La. Spin and parity for some levels below 1.2 MeV are assigned on the basis of angular correlation measurements and ..beta..-ray branching. Details of the level scheme are discussed within the context of the level systematics of neighboring odd-odd La isotopes and N = 89 odd-odd isotones.
