Environmental characterization of bedded salt formations and overlying areas of the Salina Basin

The suitability of the Salina Basin bedded salt region as a repository for underground disposal of radioactive wastes was reported. General information on the need for a repository, the technology development, the assessment process, a preliminary conceptual facility design, and anticipated impacts were included. The geology of the area including: stratigraphy, seismology, energy resources, and mineral resources was studied. The hydrology of the area was also studied as well as the climate. Socioeconomic studies of the area were also performed. Terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems were surveyed. (DMC)
