Angular and spectral distributions for subthreshold pion production

Angular and spectral distributions for the production of neutral subthreshold pions produced in nucleus-nucleus collisions are calculated by using a particle-hole formalism. The pions result from the formation and decay of the ..delta..(1232) resonance. Excellent agreement is obtained between theory and experiment.
