In response to a request from management at U.S. Tsubaki (SIC-3568), Standusky, Ohio, an investigation was begun into occupational exposure to sub radiofrequency electric and magnetic fields. The facility produced steel engineering drive and conveying chains. Electric equipment used during the manufacturing process produced high levels of electromagnetic fields (EMFs). Occupational exposure to the EMFs was monitored in the areas of the facility using electric resistance heaters (ERH) and induction heaters (INH). The author concludes that exposure to sub radiofrequency magnetic fields exceeded the occupational guideline limits. The author recommends that exposure levels be reduced.
