In a kinetic study of the promising dehydrogenation of isobutane on Pt/Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ catalysts, the authors discovered a specific effect of promoters entailing their alteration of the chemical composition of the simultaneously formed coke. The reaction was carried out in the presence of hydrogen at 500-600/sup 0/C and at atmospheric pressure on Pt/Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ catalysts containing either Cu, Pb, Ge, Se, In, or Sn as the promoter, and also without promoters.
