On the basis of kinetic studies of hydrosilylation reactions in presence of phosphine and phosphine oxide complexes of nickel it was shown that the activity and selectivity of catalysts of this type are determined by the nature of the ligands on the metal atom: the method of coordination, the donor and steric characteristics, and the presence of other coordinatable groups in the molecule of the organophosphorus ligand. Ligand control over selectivity is attained for a definite combination of the ligands L and X in the complexes NiL/sub 2/X/sub 2/, which opens up possibilities for the direction of the hydrosilylation processes by variation of the structure of the ligands.
