Research performed for the purpose of evaluating chemically augmented biological treatment (integrated Chemical-Biological Treatment) of manufactured gas plant (MGP) soils contaminated with polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is reported. The mechanism for enhancing biological treatment of soils was the addition of Fenton`s reagent. The treatability study showed that biological treatment was effective for the soil. After the successful laboratory results, summarized in this report, full-scale demonstration of the technology was recommended. The construction, operation, and results of the first year of this field-scale program are described.
