This patent describes a process for extracting scandium from titanium ore. It comprises feeding a scandium-containing titanium ore to a fluidized bed chlorinator at 800{degrees}-1250{degrees} C to produce a vaporous phase and a solid residue, the vaporous phase comprising titanium chloride, the solid residue comprising mostly unreacted feed and also a scandium compound; and recovering the scandium compound from the solid residue.
