ABAQUS-EPGEN: a general-purpose finite-element code. Volume 2. Theory manual

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:5634819

ABAQUS-EPGEN is a highly sophisticated, nonlinear computer code that allows engineers to perform advanced structural analyses of nuclear and fossil fuel electric generating plants. The code controls time steps and load increments automatically on the basis of user-specified accuracy tolerances. The code models structures and continua with arbitrary magnitudes of displacements, rotations, and strains. Nonlinear modeling of materials, boundary conditions, and loading conditions is available for static and dynamic analyses. The code's heat transfer capability permits general analyses of problems related to thermal stress. This volume, the Theory Manual, provides basic background in the mechanics concepts that form the foundation of the models that are implemented in the program. Detailed descriptions are given of the program's analysis procedures, and the geometric and material models that have been included. The mathematical model is defined, and some comments are made concerning the value of the model for particular applications. Then the numerical methods used to obtain approximate results with that model are explained. (LEW)
