Efficient laser harmonic generation employing a low-loss external optical resonator

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5630343
This patent describes a laser harmonic generator. It comprises a solid monolithic optical resonator of a nonlinear optical material with the optical resonator defined by internally reflective facets of the nonlinear optical material; an input coupler defined by one of the reflective facets of the nonlinear optical material for coupling an input beam of laser radiation from an external laser source into the optical resonator for exciting a resonant mode thereof to convert resonated fundamental laser radiation into harmonic laser radiation within the optical resonator; and the input facet having a coating to impedance match the optical resonator to minimize the power of the fundamental laser radiation which is reflected from the input coupler and to maximize the fundamental laser power coupled by the optical coupler into the optical resonator, taking into account the conversion loss to the generated harmonic.
