This paper discusses material on nitric acid solutions; the following products are formed in the radiolysis of HNO/sup 3/: eaq H, HO/sub 2/, NO/sub 3/, OH, H/sub 2/O/sub 2/, and HNO/sub 2/. Some of these products are reducing agents for plutonium and neptunium ions, others are oxidizing agents. The experiments showed that the reduction of Pu(IV) in radiolysis is observed only in weakly acid solutions of HNO/sub 3/ and at a Pu(IV) concentration greater than or equal to 5 X 10/sup -3/M. At lower plutonium concentrations its oxidation is observed. The results of investigations of the radiolysis of nitric acid solutions containing plutonium were found along with uranium, neptunium U-235 fission products, etc.
