The Bergen County Community Action Program has developed designs for a solar window box, a thermosyphoning air panel, direct gain glazing and storage, and an active air-rock collector which all use readily available materials and tools to fabricate. The thermosyphoning air panel is a site built unit that is attached to an exterior southerly wall of a structure. It is constructed of a corrugated aluminum collector plate and 0.040-inch thick fiberglass reinforced polyester glazing. Air moving between the collector plate and the side of the building on which it is mounted is heated and passes to the interior through a vent at the top of the panel. The bottom one-way vent prevents reverse airflow, and cooling at night and during cloudy periods.
