The public hearing on August 21, 1978 was the third appearance on the west coast and the second in California of the Subcommittee regarding distribution of Alaska North Slope crude oil to all regions of the country as provided for in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Authorization Act of 1973. The subcommittee previously received extensive testimony on the Long Beach-Midland pipeline project, the Northern Tier pipeline project, the Transmountain pipeline project, and the Kitimat pipeline project. The primary purpose of the August 21 hearing was to review the available transportation alternatives to disperse the Alaskan crude on the west coast, focusing on other proposals to insure equitable distribution of Alaska crude to all regions of the country; fourteen witnesses appeared. At the August 22 hearing, twelve additional witnesses presented statements. Additional material and prepared statements for the hearing record are presented in an appendix. (MCW)
