Hanford personnel neutron dosimetry problems and solutions

Conference ·
OSTI ID:5627903
The following activities are underway at Hanford to improve the assessment of personnel neutron dose, to document current dosimeter performance in actual work environments and to provide a technical basis for additional improvements: Conduct parallel evaluation of albedo and CR-39 track etch dosimeter data on a monthly basis for selected Hanford personnel. Compare albedo and CR-39 dosimeter response, along with tissue equivalent proportional counter measurements, for plutonium metal, plutonium oxide and plutonium tetrafluoride sources. Improve the Hanford albedo dose algorithm to provide good DOE Laboratory Accreditation Program (DOELAP) performance and reasonable dose estimates for work environments with significant scattered neutron radiation. Implement a combination thermoluminescent albedo and CR-39 track etch dosimeter. The status of these activities is discussed. 6 refs., 2 figs., 3 tabs.
