Intermediate flow model test report

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/5627394· OSTI ID:5627394
The intermediate flow enters the top of the Clinch River Breeder Reactor Intermediate Heat Exchanger (CRBRP-IHX), passes downward through the downcomer pipe and turns 180/sup 0/ in the plenum formed by the intermediate hemi-head and the tubesheet. The flow then passes through the tube bundle and exits the heat exchanger. Due to the geometry of the plenum, the flow tends to be strongest in the tubes along the outer perimeter of the tube bundle. The tests determined the geometry of an annular ring baffle secured to the wall of the hemispherical head which deflects the tubeside flow evenly into the entrance region of the tube bundle, and the length of the downcomer extension.
