Surface controlled subsurface safety valve

This patent describes a safety valve for downhole use in well comprising: a. housing means having a longitudinal bore extending therethrough; b. valve closure means mounted in the housing means to control fluid flow through the longitudinal bore; c. the valve closure means having a first position which allows fluid flow through the longitudinal bore and a second position which blocks fluid flow therethrough; d. an operator tube in the housing means to shift the valve closure means from its second position to its first position; e. means for moving the operator tube in response to a control signal from the well surface; f. a plurality of small ports extending through the upper end of the operator tube; and g. the small ports defining an acute angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the operator tube whereby fluid flow is directed to clean the interior of the housing means adjacent thereto.
