Microstructure, magnetic, and magnetoelastic behavior measurements under varying conditions of compressive stress have been carried out on as-cast samples of the alloy system Tb{sub {ital x}}Dy{sub 1{minus}{ital x}}Fe{sub 1.9} ({ital x}=0.27, 0.3, and 0.5) prepared by a contained float-zone growth technique.
