Probabilistic Safety Assessments in Canada

Probabilistic Safety Assessments (PSAs) have been performed in Canada for CANDU nuclear plants since 1975. They focus on plant availability and safety, as well as risk to the public, as normally done in US Probabilistic Risk Assessments. This paper describes the use of PSAs in decision making on design changes, tests, maintenance, and operating procedures.
